Many people want to buy a talking parrot but have no clue as to which type is best to bring home. It's actually very simple once you know more about the various types of talking birds.
Timneh and African greys are considered the best of all the talking parrots and a sure success in your home. You would be selecting the very best if you bought either of these birds.
Both types of bird are part of the African Grey family with the Congo African Grey the larger and the Timneh smaller. The Timneh is very noticeable as it has a colored upper mandible and the feathers in its tail are maroon.
Also very talkative are large Amazons, which include the Panama, Blue Fronted and Double Yellow Head types.
Although not known for being talkers, the Eclectus and Lories also have that ability. They are very beautiful birds, which often overshadows their ability to talk. Eclectus are very large. The male Eclectus is green with a yellow beak and the females are a mix of purple and red.
Other birds also have good vocabularies and are a great option if you cannot find or afford the best talking parrots.
Among them, Parakeets and Conures have clear voices as do Budgies, Cockatoos and Macaws. The exceptions are the female Budgies and Cockatiels, which do not talk.
Caring for your birds is vital and takes some commitment to learn. The Lories, for instance, require a serving of nectar daily and a ton of fruit to maintain their health.
Talking birds in general can be fussy and will take time to learn to trust you and become part of your family. You will have to initiate this through training.
Even the best of the talking parrots require training. Persistence and patience are required to achieve success with your bird.
