A survey taken by one hundred and two people (102) lists the twelve favorite dogs owned. These dogs include Great Danes, Beagles, German Shepherds, and Golden Retrievers.
Because this survey was only taken by one hundred and two people, it may not be the most accurate of surveys. But it is a start.
Number one on this list is the German Shepherd. This is no surprise to me, as the German Shepherds are working dogs. They are used in many services including: assisting the police, and assisting the blind. They are strongly built, approximately twenty-three to twenty-five inches tall, and weigh approximately seventy-five to ninety-five pounds. A very intelligent and alert dog. Many people like the German Shepherd because they can be trained to be guard dogs. They are very loyal, and can easily spot an intruder.
Two on the list are the Labradors . These dogs are very loyal and gentle to humans. Despite those characteristics it is used to hunt waterfowl and some birds. The Labradors are approximately twenty-three inches tall, which is slightly smaller than the German Shepherd. It weighs sixty to seventy-five pounds which is also lighter than the German Shepherd. Labradors have dense, oily coats which makes them resistant to cold weather and icy water. This kind of dog has a reputation to be great companion dogs.
Placing third are the Beagles. Very cute and affectionate animals who are also great rabbit hunters. Much smaller and much lighter than the two above dogs, but is heavy for its height. Most of the time these small dogs are hyper, curious and high maintenance. Sometimes the Beagles tend to sniff the ground, start walking and wonder into the streets or other places where they should not be. where they could fall victim to oncoming traffic.
Tied for third are Golden Retrievers. Who doesn't love these dogs from the Air Bud movies. The Retrievers origin is from Scotland and they were used to retrieve hunted wild fowl. Golden retrievers are exceptionally patient because of this. They have also proved useful for guiding the blind. They are nowadays great family dogs who are very tolerant and easy to handle. Golden Retrievers have golden coats, (hence the name) and stands about 23 inches tall.
Those are the top four dogs, followed by the Cocker Spaniels, Then the Chihuahuas .
After that there are the Great Danes (the largest dogs on earth) Huskies, Dalmatians, Border Collies, Pugs, and Poodles.
