With so many names to choose from, and having had three Dachshunds myself, I thought it would be interesting to see and share some of the popular and unusual Dachshund names. As for me, my first mini Doxie was named Little Guy. We got him after some friends had bought his sister who they named Little Bit. We had a hard time finding a name for him but Little Guy just worked so perfectly. It was fun to have people come up to him and say “ Hey little guy. What's your name?” Our other two that we have now are Lou, named after the dog in the movie Cats & Dogs by my oldest son, and Copper because he is the color, (almost) of a copper penny. Here are some other names and their meanings if available.
- Turi Brownie
- Alighieri Dante Gunter
- Grainne Precious
- Celeste Blaze
- KC Helga
- Breslin PeeWee
- Tracee Elsie
- Makenna Rusty
- Frank Twiggy
- Kinky Heidi Beanie Bubba
- Tweed Fu Manchu Bullet Kacy
These are just a few of the interesting names I found. When naming your new Dachshund I always recommend giving him or her a name that suits their personality and looks. Remember, once your dog knows its name you can't really change it, so make sure it is a name that is easy to say and has one or two syllables so it is easy for your dog to understand. Make the naming a family thing where everyone gets to choose a name and then everyone votes for their favorite. Have fun with it and enjoy your dog!
