The West Highland white terrier otherwise known as Poltalloch Terrier is a very gentle, loving, active dog. It is much more of a watch dog than a guard dog. It makes and excellent pet and is very smart, it can figure out just about anything you want it to. The westie's special skill is being a family pet, it gets along with all other pets but you have to teach it when it's young with cats. The westie is very flexible with its home; it can be a country dog, a city dog, or even an apartment dweller. The westie is also a great competing dog and wins lots of dog events. Its height ranges from 10-11 inches and weights ranges from 15-22 pounds. The westie has a thick 2 inch fur coat and dark deep set eyes their tail is about 5-6 inches. Most westies are fairly healthy some are prone to chronic skin problems, perthe's disease, hernias, liver disease, and jawbone calcification. They enjoy a regular walk or playing around with toys, but they won't be upset if they miss a day. Their life expectancy is 15 or more years
