House training an animal, as we all know, can be a lengthy operation. Just getting a dog so young to work it out can be stressful for the animal and their owners. However, after studying various articles and watching television shows, I decided to put my knowledge to good use. I acquired a 7-week-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
I wasn't too concerned about the training process; I know that accidents would occur. Patience is a virtue so they say.
Each time my puppy awoke or finished play, I quickly placed him in the garden. As soon as he completed his toilet task, I immediately rewarded him with a tiny treat. I repeatedly told him he was a clever boy.
Every morning, when he awoke I immediately picked him up from his bed to place him outside. Within a few days of the pup joining his new home, he was soon crying to go outside.
The mornings were the easiest for him to understand., within days he began to whimper at the back door. As each day went by he regularly repeated his actions.
It took just under 2 weeks to train my pup, and staffs are supposed to be dumb dogs, he certainly isn't. If I can do it as a novice with my gorgeous so called "dumb" pup, then anyone can.
As long as you stick to the rules and stay with your pet to constantly reassure and praise them, I guarantee you will have a happy dog and family, with a lovely clean home.
Your few days of patience will be well rewarded. Just follow these rules.
