Calico cats are clinically insane. No doubt about it. At first I didn't believe the rumors that all calico cats are disturbed-then I took two of them into my home. Their names are Jane and London. they are sisters who were born strays. They were born on my birthday and so they immediately acquired a special place in my heart.
Their eccentricities became apparent when I noticed them sleeping in their soiled litter box. I kept pulling them out and cleaning them and they kept jumping right back in. The only recourse was to keep their litter box clean all the time-not an easy task as anyone with cats could tell you.
London has an unnerving habit, she wakes up screaming. Various times throughout the day she will tear through the house making this screaming noise. She seems bent on alerting the family of some form of impending doom. She will climb up family member's pant legs screaming like her tail is on fire, which its not. I'm all to familiar with the smell of her tail being on fire as she's managed to put herself in that situation before. I would love to know what she dreams about that would cause her to jump up from a sound sleep and embark on a no holds barred freak out.
Jane is a thief, a good one too. Her skill is not in the theft itself but in how passionately she will fight to keep her loot. I'm almost certain that Jane thinks she's a dog. She will steal anything, some examples being, slices of pineapple, pasta (cooked or raw), bread, lettuce, cell phones, jewelry, and too many other things to list. If forced to defend the fruits of her thievery she will snarl, spit, growl, bite, and scratch. If Jane has latched on to something that belongs to you your best bet is to hope she gets bored with it before you need it again.
This is not to say that you shouldn't take in a calico in need, you should just be prepared. they will cuddle more than most cats. They will worship and adore the people in their lives. And, they will keep you constantly in fear-oh, I mean amused.
Should you decide that you are brave enough to adopt on of these lovable lunatics petfinder.com
