The Cat's Meow

What a cat's noises are all about.

I have been well-trained by all of my cats over the years. Each has their own personality and therefore the language they use although sounding the same is different for each one.

A gentle mew from one means the door needs to be open now while the others may be asking for attention.

A screech at the window is either a call to be allowed to chase the birds in the garden or a complaint that the dog is getting too familiar.

Purring is always a sign that they are being treated in the manner that they have become accustomed to, while we have one tom who at the age of three has yet to make a purring sound.

Thankfully he has not made the smell that his brother made before being neutered.

Little yip yip yip noises accompanied with scratching at the door or window is a command to move and let them out.

Many times during the night the noises appear to turn to human speech as "mam" and yep can clearly be distinguished.

Whether this is tiredness on my part or something more sinister I am unsure
