In late August, there were four kittens born, to a wild cat, under our house. After about four
weeks, the mama cat left the kittens and never came back. We found the four kittens,
wandering outside of the basement, starving and sick. We brought them inside,
and began feeding them with pet baby bottles, filled with warm milk, five times a day.
We fixed them a bed, in a large box, and placed the bed in my home office.
After about a week, of feeding them, with the pet baby bottles, they began to respond to
the care, and began to regain their strength, and began to act like normal kittens. Playing
on the living room floor, and chasing each other.
There were two gold and white (Grouchy and Stranger), one calico (Snuggles), and a solid
The black one (Miss Fit): So named for the following reasons. Grouchy would hiss and spit at us
when we would play with him. Stranger would tend to shy away from things that would move.
Snuggles would do just that, snuggle up to us and go to sleep, after he ate. And Miss Fit got
her name because of the little temper tantrums she would throw, if she didn't get what she
wanted.
We gave them all baths, (what an experience) but discovered that Snuggles and Miss Fit
loved the water. Grouchy and Stranger did not. But they soon learned that they were
going to get bathed, so they finally learned to accept it.
Now we have a male cat, gold and white like Grouchy and Stranger, that is about 12 years
old, and a female dachshund, about 7 years old. Our full grown cat soon learned that these
kittens loved to chase his tail, so he decided to hide, when we brought out the kittens to play.
Our dachshund, well that was another story. She would try to hide, by jumping on the couch,
but soon learned that did not work to well, and the kittens, as they got stronger, could climb
up on the couch and want to play. So she finally decided that when they came out to play, she
would go into her pet carrier and hide, until we put them up
After about a month of caring for these four kittens, we decided to put them up for adoption.
I contacted the humane society, and they told me that no one was adopting kittens, and they
were over crowded with cats. So I put an ad in the local newspaper that read, "Free Kittens, to a
good home." The first day the ad came out, we had a call, from a lady, who wanted two kittens
for her grandchildren. She came over and took Stranger and Snuggles, and they made two
small children very happy, Then one of my son's friends, wanted Grouchy, so his mother said he
could have her, and Grouchy had a good home.
We decided to keep Miss Fit. She now resides in my home office, mainly sleeping and trying
to help me type. Then when my son is trying to do his homework, she gets right in the middle
of it and tries to help.
When we are lounging in the living room, at night watching television, she makes it a point to
chase the male cat's tail or antagonize the dachshund. This trio is something to watch. It is like
a three-ring circus.
