Characteristics:
Independent, tenacious, intelligent, protective. Moderately trainable. Very good with children, especially ones over the age of 5 and gentle. Not very good with other pets, known to chase cats and be aggressive against other dogs.

Original Use:
Hunting foxes, badgers, and vermin on Scottish farms.
Breed Characteristics Suited for it’s Job:
Scotties have a high stamina level. They’re very protective, controlling, very powerful, and domineering creatures. They have durable tails, designed so that farmers can pull them out of a foxhole by their tails. At only 20 pounds, they are nimble, agile, and light weight.
Breed Problems:
Known health problems include Scotty Cramp, Hypothyroidism, Bladder cancer, Craniomandibular Osteopathy. Bleeding disorders.

Breed Problem Corrections:
Scotties are considered a moderately healthy breed. Craniomandibular Osteopathy can be handled by medication, and resolves itself when the puppy stops growing.
