Firstly I must start out by saying I neither like the stereotypical pet names, Fluffy or Spot, nor do I like naming them human first names, Lucy or Charley, however we all have our different likes and dislikes so I have included a few regardless of my tastes. I find one thing that might help, although it sounds odd, is to look at your pet and run through the alphabet, some pets don't look like a certain letter will suit them, whereas another letter might. This helps narrow your search.

You will note that any name can be made more fancy simply by adding "Mister, or Miss, in front of the name. There is no reason to give your pet a negative name, such as "Digger". If there comes a time you cannot keep your pet the negative connotations associated with these names will put people off your dog. The same is true of giving pets people names, if somebody knew a person named "Billy" they might even hold it against your pet if their experiences with that person were negative.
