Looking to Adopt a Great Dog or Cat?

How to adopt a pet online, whether it is a purebred or mixed breed. One happy internet user's success story.

If you want to find the perfect dog or cat for your family, Petfinder.com is the right website for you. On it, you will find all kinds of pets, from mutts to purebreds, just waiting for you to take them home. This site shows photographs and characteristics of each pet, to give you an idea of its temperament, age, and other vital information. Petfinder is an umbrella site that showcases reputable pet rescue agencies all over the United States. As a satisfied customer, Petfinder comes highly recommended by me, and my beautiful cat, Beau.

One day I ran across Petfinder.com on the internet, while browsing different pet-related websites. I wanted to adopt a cat, but didn't feel like going to the store to look at cages of kittens and risk coming home with more than one. For me, it was much more convenient to look online. On the main page of the site, there is a simple menu to choose from. You simply choose what kind of pet you're looking for, put in your area code, and hit "search." What come up are photos of animals from local upstanding rescue organizations. If you want to see animals of other regions just leave out your zip code to see the full list. Click on a pet's picture, and you will be brought to its page. Here, you can find out how old it is, if it has special needs, if it's purebred or mixed breed, and where to contact for more information.

Seeing the photo of a gorgeous, pure white cat with blue eyes, I clicked on Beau's photo. Reading his information, I could see that he was born deaf, and was in Tennessee. I contacted the nice lady, Linda, at Tropical Feline Rescue, Inc. here in Florida for more information. She told me that he was young, and had been rescued from certain euthanasia from a pound up in Tennessee, but the family who had him had too many cats. She said they would provide me a full veterinarian's report of his health, and that he was healthy, with no illnesses. I agreed to see this cat, whom they reassured me was very sweet and personable.

They brought me the cat from Tennessee all the way to Florida in September of 2005. His former owner brought him to the agency, which had him vet checked, then he was brought to me. I was given his vet papers, collar, some new toys, and reassurance that if it didn't work out for me, to call them and they would come and get him. They wanted this match to be a perfect "fit." and it is. I was thrilled. Beau and I bonded instantly, and have been inseparable ever since. Everyone is happy, the former owner, myself, Beau and the agency that brought him to me. This experience has been a total success. Beau has never been sick and is bonded to my other cat, Blackie. He doesn't get along with my other cat, Fluffy but they tolerate one another pretty well. This was a match that was meant to be.

If you're looking for a purebred pet, there are many of them on Petfinder, for free or a nominal adoption fee. Also, you can find out if the animal has papers or not, and other criteria. Looking at just cats, there were Himalayans, Persians, Ragdolls, and more. What a selection of pets! Take a look at this helpful site. They can even help you find a home for unwanted pets you find, as well. Ask them questions and check back frequently, as they add new animals all the time. If you get a pet, they will help you to acclimate it to your household, if needed. These passionate pet lovers are grateful to find good homes for their pets. You will be asked to fill out a brief application, and if accepted, the pet is yours. It's that simple, and you'll be surprised how really outstanding pets are yours just for the asking.
