Is He Dead or Alive?

While letting out one of our budgies, the budgie got stuck behind the refrigerator. Find out if he's dead or alive.

We have two budgies for our pets. One is named “Sky Blue” and the other is named “Grass Green.” Once while letting out our budgies, we had this question in mind, “Is he dead or alive?” Let me tell you what happened… It was a Father's Day afternoon and we were going to surprise our dad by cleaning out the house. One of the things we did was clean out our budgie's cage. It had bird poop and water all over the place. I don't know if I could ever live in there. We let the budgies fly out. Sky Blue, the younger bird, kept on hiding in dark corners and cracks. We just bought him a few months ago. It is a baby budgie. Meanwhile Grass Green was flying crazily around the room.

While my mom was washing the cage, I was playing around with Sky Blue. Somehow he managed to get in the kitchen. I tried to get him out but I was afraid that he would bite me. He went into the side of the refrigerator. (The little space between the side of the refrigerator and the wall) I was getting a little worried since he might get stuck. I tried pulling him out by the tale, but again I was afraid of his bite. I tried blocking the place so he wouldn't get deeper. Somehow he slipped under and was somewhere at the back of the refrigerator. Now we couldn't get him. He was stuck. We tried using sticks to poke him out, but that was no use.

My mom thought that the bird might suffocate since he was stuck and probably squished between the refrigerator and the wall. It is also hot there. After many tries of poking, looking, spraying and waiting, we were getting more worried then ever. We didn't hear the bird's chirping sounds anymore. We decided to just leave it for a while and get the other bird back in the cage. After some chasing and catching we finally got Grass Green back in its cage. Then we decided to move the refrigerator out and look for him behind.

After some heavy-duty work, we slowly pulled out the refrigerator. My mom sadly said, “Don't be disappointed if you see a dead bird back there” I slowly slid in between the refrigerator and the wall. Then I slowly went to the back. Over there I saw Sky Blue alive. We were so happy! I chased him out of there, caught him and then I put him back in his cage. He was safe and sound. He looked a little bit worn out and had some dust on his feet, but he was alive! But not too long ago, just a week after this incident, Sky Blue died. I saw him lying down at the bottom of the cage with his eyes closed. Then she was buried and laid to rest.
