Pets that accompany you to Beale AFB, California, will need time to settle into their new surroundings and to be properly cared for as pet travel can be just as stressful for pets as it can be for their owners. For families who choose to live on base, they must register their pets at the Beale Veterinary Treatment Facility (VTF) within 5 duty days of arrival at Beale AFB. Call the VTF at (530) 634-2104 for more details. The VTF is located at 25505 B Street, near the Thrift Shop, and is open Monday-Friday 8:30am-12:00pm and 1:00pm-3:30pm. The VTF is not open weekends, during holidays or on down days.
The VTF provides basic pet care such as weighing, examination, flea and tick control, as well as vaccinations.
In order to register cats and dogs over 4 months of age on base, pet owners will be required to provide documentary evidence of a rabies vaccination that is approved by the state of California. Pets will only be seen by appointment only. Walk ins for pets are not approved. Appointments for pets can be made two weeks in advance by calling during the usual duty hours.
Once the rabies certificate has been produced and logged into the pet's records, the pet will be registered on base. Registration for pets on base is done annually. In addition to vaccination against rabies, the Beale VTF also suggests offering a full range of vaccinations for pets in order for pets to receive extra protection. But if your pets are still young and they receive their rabies vaccination at the VTF, they will automatically be registered on base.
In addition to the normal fees that you will have to pay for rabies booster vaccinations and other necessary health care for your pets, you will be charged an additional $2 service fee each time you visit the VTF at Beale AFB.
Pet owners are under no obligation to use the VTF at Beale AFB. They may choose an off-base veterinarian to see to their pet's health care needs. But active duty personnel must still have their pets registered at the VTF even if their pets receive no treatment at Beale AFB.
Pet care should be a high priority for military personnel and their family members who move to Beale AFB so that their pets can be kept in reasonably good health. It does not take much time to register pets at the VTF and it is well worth it to know that your pet is protected.
