How to Prevent Cats From Getting Trapped in Rooms

Cats that have the run of the house love the freedom to go into any room of the home and explore new things. But there is also the possibility of cats getting trapped in rooms for minutes or even hours if you are not careful.

There are some very simple preventative steps that you can take to ensure that your furry friends are not left trapped in a room with no access to food, water or other necessities.

Do a Head Count

With just one cat, it is easier to do a head count before you leave for work or school in the morning to make sure that your cat is not trapped in the master bedroom or the den, but is within sight of you. But multiple cat owners will need to spend a little extra time accounting for each and every one of their cats before they leave the house so that their cats are not left trapped and distressed with no way to get out. After accounting for each cat, cat owners should then make sure that all doors are securely shut and that there is no way that their cats can get trapped.

Check Up on Kitty

However, it is not just owners who leave the house who need to be mindful of where their cats are; cat owners should also be aware of their cats' whereabouts even while they are inside the house. How long has it been since you last saw your cat? Does your younger cat have a habit of always sitting on your lap after dinner, but the cat has not been seen in two or three hours? If that is the case, cat owners should make it a habit of regularly keeping tabs on their cats to make sure that they have not become shut up somewhere in the house. It is more than a simple case of accidentally shutting a cat inside a room. Cats can also crawl into open drawers and cupboards in the kitchen while you are cooking or looking for a utensil without knowing how to get back out again. That is why it is so important to know where your inside cats are rather than just assume they are curled up in another room sleeping.

Cat owners will know how upsetting it can be to discover that their cats have become trapped inside a room. But by keeping a watchful eye on inside cats and checking up on them from time to time, they can quickly discover if one of the cats is trapped and needs to be let out of a room and how they can prevent this from happening again in future.
