Making a dog roll over is a fun trick for the whole family, including the dog. Remember, training increases communication between owner and dog, so work hard.

  1. Your dog should already know how to sit, and lie down. If not, read my other articles on that.
  2. Get your dog into the laying down position and reward him/her
  3. Take a treat in your hand and slowly move your hand in a circle around her/his head
  4. Push your dog onto its side, and roll it over. Reward instantly.
  5. Make sure your rewards are instant, because the dog must know what the reward is for.
  6. Repeat saying ROLL OVER in a firm voice and making the hand movement
  7. Slowly phase out the hand command, so that your dog responds to your voice alone

Tips:

Use small titbits, as to a dog a big treat is the same, little ones often is like money in the bank.

Practise for about 5-10minutes DAILY.

If the dog is getting bored, finish your training session.

Warning:

Your dog may bite your fingers so be careful.
