How to Make a Dog Lie Down

Follow this simple guide to have your dog lying down with ease.

Making a dog lie down is a functional and handy command a dog should know. Training increases communication and bond between owner and dog, so this is very important

  1. Your dog should already know how to sit. If not, read my other article on that.
  2. Get your dog into the sitting position and reward him/her
  3. Take a treat in your hand and slowly glide your hand down
  4. If the dog follows your hand and lies down, reward it immediately
  5. If not, pull the dogs legs out, and reward. Make sure your rewards are instant, because the dog must know what the reward is for.
  6. Repeat saying DOWN, in a firm voice and moving your arm slowly down
  7. Slowly phase out the hand command, so that your dog responds to your voice alone

Tips:

Use small titbits, as to a dog a big treat is the same, little ones often is like money in the bank.

Practise for about 5-10minutes DAILY.

If the dog is getting bored, finish your training session.

Warning:

Your dog may bite your fingers so be careful.
