How to Keep Your Cat Happy

Cats have become so well-loved that they are now more like family members. But if you are a cat owner, how can you keep your cat happy and content?

Watch the Tail

Everyone has pet peeves such as refusing to give people a ride if they smoke in our car or breaking off a friendship after someone has personally offended them. Even though it is not possible to get inside a cat's mind and work out what they are thinking, there is one way to guarantee that you displease a cat and that is by playing with your cat's tail. Even a friendly, affectionate cat can quickly turn if you play with your cat's tail or grab it without letting go. The cat will quickly clam up and try to get its tail back. If you are not careful, a strategically aimed swipe from your cat will result in scratches, bites and hisses. When engaging in a playful wrestle with your cat, do your best to avoid grabbing hold of your cat's tail, stepping on it or rolling onto it. The cat will not be happy!

Cleanliness

Cats are extremely fastidious about their own personal hygiene and will spend hours grooming themselves and other cats in the home. But cats that do not have a clean litter tray or environment where the litter tray is kept will show their displeasure by tearing through the house at breakneck speed, whining and howling until they have their owner's attention and walking in and out of the room as if to make it obvious what has been bothering them. Cat owners should ensure that indoor cats are given a clean litter tray to use and that it is regularly scooped and cleaned. If the litter tray is kept in a bathroom, cat owners should do more than just clean out the litter tray. They should mop the bathroom floor, wipe down all surfaces and fixtures with detergent and keep the room clean.

Teasing

Cats enjoy playing and spending time with their owners. But what they do not like is to be teased. While playing with your cat, make sure that you do not tease your cat so much that it becomes frustrated to the point of scratching and biting you. Dangle the cat toy above your cat's head, but let the cat reach it every once in a while and do not allow young children to tease cats by pulling their whiskers, stepping on their tail or withholding food from them.

Many cat owners wonder why their cats sometimes become angry and turn on them. But even cats have a tolerance threshold. It is important to get to know your cat's personality and do all you can to keep your cat happy and ensure you do not anger your cat.
