How to Help Your Horse Gain Weight

Self help for horse owners.

It has been brought to my attention that several of our performance and breeding horses are losing weight due to extreme exercise or excessive breeding and foaling. However I do have a solution for this.

But lets make sure we've covered the basics first. I want you to ask yourself theses questions.

  1. Is my horse up to date on his worming treatment?
  2. Has my horse had a teeth flotation in the past year?
  3. Am I feeding at least a 4% fat feed?

If you have answered yes to all of these questions let me see if I can help you out. I'm going to let you in on a little secret I learned from a friend. The answer to all your problems is plain old corn oil.

How many times have you bought a bottle for a fish fry? Plenty times probably. Well go out and pick you up a bottle and follow these directions:

  • 1/4 Cup corn oil in the morning feeding: Do this for about four days.
  • 1/2 Cup corn oil in the morning feeding: Do this for eight days.
  • 1 Cup of corn oil the morning feeding until your horse has reached your desired weight.
