For some people cleaning fish tank every month is fun and stress buster. They enjoy doing it and never hesitate to take the task on any holiday. But for some people cleaning fish tank seems to be the most difficult task, they just try to find some excuse every Sunday and keep postponing.

The actual problem is they are usually not aware of proper steps to follow while cleaning fish tanks or aquariums. As a result they end up in spending hours together after it and mess up every thing.

Here I will try to explain every thing about cleaning your fish tank in a step by step manner. If you follow accordingly you will realize how easy it is to maintain your fish tanks or aquariums clean and healthy.

First thing you must do before starting is to make sure you have every thing that you need to clean fish tank at your dispense. You will require a bucket, siphon, gravel vacuum, sponge, algae scrapers, glass cleaner, filter bush, towel and lime remover.

Now as a first step start removing water from the tank; you must remove at least 25% of water in order to clean the tank properly. Carefully take out fishes and place them in a clean vessel full of water. If possible try to remove all the removable decorations like plants, rocks, pebbles etc. from the aquarium.

For best results start cleaning with glass of your aquarium, first inside then out side. You may use lime remover, brush and glass cleaner etc to wipe and clean the glass thoroughly.

Next clean any fixed decorations you have inside. You may use gravel vacuum algae scrapers etc for cleaning plants and rocks etc. Make sure you remove all debris and excess food etc which got deposited in the bottom.

Next take out your filter and rinse it thoroughly in warm water. Do not through it away and use new filter every time, as it grows good bacteria on it which is helpful. After cleaning, fix it back in the aquarium properly.

Once you are done with all cleaning; now start placing decorations back in the aquarium. Carefully place Rocks, plants and other decorations in proper order and fill back fresh clean water in the tank. Do not fill water till the top tip of aquarium keep at least couple of inches of space on the top.

Now put your fishes back in the tank and turn on the lights. You will feel great looking at the fishes swimming happily in the fresh, clean and healthy environment.
