Helping Your Dog Not Fear Toilet Training

Being patient is the best way while toilet training your dog.

Anyone who has ever trained a dog, knows of the most challenging areas can be toilet training. Some dogs have a harder time than others with learning toilet training, and some are very sensitive and can sense when you are frustrated or not happy with him. And it is very hard to be patient all the time when you are training, it is easy to get carried away and lose your temper, but this is not going to help your dog learn a new behavior.

It can be a frustrating experience for both of you as an owner and for your puppy, but it is very important that you do not let your frustration show to your puppy because they will get very confused and not understand why you are mad at them for doing a natural task. When you are toilet training your dog, don't ever raise your voice and yell at them, or send them off to their doggy bed to punish them.

Remember that yelling at your dog after you find a little incident in the house will only confuse him because he will not understand why you are mad at something that is already done. Toilet training your dog takes a lot of patience, and you cannot push or rush your dog into learning it. It takes time, and sometimes requires you to step back, take a break and start over again. Fear is not the best way to teach a dog, and although they can learn by fear, they will learn to not respect you and think of you as always bullying them.

You need to think of your dog with respect, and let him trust you. Once you build this trust with your dog, he will learn a lot more quickly and you will be a lot happier with the progress.

Some people make the mistake when toilet training their dogs, to lay down a piece of newspaper in one area in the house, but this just confuses them because they think you are saying its ok to go to the bathroom inside, and will not understand the difference. You have to be consistent when training your dog, let them know that outdoors is where they are to go to the bathroom.

Whatever you do and even when you get frustrated, do not hit your dog and rub his nose in it if he goes to the bathroom inside, this is very confusing to the dog, and he will not know when to trust you or not. Be patient with your dog, always be very reassuring and praise him when he is doing a good job, the more patient and understanding you are with your dog, the quicker he will learn whatever task it is you are training him to do. He will also build a trust with you and make him obey and listen to you much better at all times.
