Cats quite often vomit some stomach contents to excrete hair balls. Helpful hints that follow can, hopefully diminish this occurrence.
Hairball formula is offered by many makers of cat food namely: Friskies, Meow Mix, Iams, and Purina to name a few. These can be mixed if your feline likes one more than the other.
Brushing at least once a week and daily if time permits is an excellent way to eliminate the accumulation of fur in the stomach. the “furminator”, is costly device available at specialty pet stores like Pet Smart. It is well worth the $30 to $40 since it deeply gets to the thick under coat. Cleaning is easy, which requires only running your hand in the suggested direction thus preventing any cuts to the pet owner. Other brushes are effective if funds do not permit the above mentioned price to be considered. Wal-Mart has numerous kinds and at an economical cost.
Several years ago, a friend who attended vet school, shared a remedy with me. Every other day take regular Vaseline and put on the upper shoulder of your cat. Not much is needed. Consider the size of the cat and use a little at first to see the results from application. The shoulder area is used so if the cat goes in the litter box, the litter will not attach itself to the Vaseline in that area. Make sure it is applied where the cat can get to it when grooming itself. I have 3 grown cats weighing from 8 to 15 pounds. I smear a tip of two fingers for the 8 pound cat and almost enough to be seen with depth, for the 15 pound cat. The 15 pound cat might get about a quarter or 1/8 teaspoon if measured.
Feel the belly of the cat and if it is hard or solid, consider giving every day until the belly softens. Sneak up on your four legged friend for application since most cats do not like the smell.
