Getting Your Dog Back

(contd.)

We asked to see the dog and they let us go back and visit him. When we found the cage they were keeping him in, he went "banana's" when he saw us. At first he was growling, and he even charged at us through the cage. Once he got our scent though, he started crying. He knew exactly who we were. DOGS DON'T FORGET. It was very heartbreaking to leave him.

I was going to try to find out two things: The truth about how the dog ended up at the shelter, and how to get him back home. Both would be difficult.

I contacted the guy we gave the dog to and asked him why the dog was at the "pound," and he acted shocked, like he really didn't know. I was told that they sent the dog to the vet because he was sick and foaming at the mouth. I was then informed that the vet said the dog would be put down. I found out the guy we gave the dog to honestly didn't know what happened, because his wife is the one who called the "pound" to have the dog picked up, and I think she made the vet story up so it wouldn't upset him.

You see, Woman #1 at the shelter told us (LIED) that the owners of the dog brought the dog in and signed him over.

Thinking I had an "ace up my sleeve," I had an idea that I thought would work to get my dog back. I sent my sister. I also told her to tell the people at the shelter that the dog would be kept inside. (And have his own room, cable t.v. and Xbox). She almost pulled it off, except for one of her big mouth kids. Woman#1 at the animal shelter asked if my sister had any other dogs, and my sister's little brat kid jumped in and said "yes we have a big dog." That being the case, my sister would have to bring her dog in to see if it got along with the dog they were wanting to adopt. (Like two male dogs are gonna love each other at first sight).

Another requirement for adopting the dog, is that every person living in the house has to come in and see if the dog likes them, and vice versa. I personally think this is all a little overkill; I mean, animals AND people need an adjustment period in most cases.

I then went to the "head honcho" of the animal shelter for one more try to get my dog out. After explaining to him the situation, he wanted to know why I was so set on getting the dog back, and I told him the dog belongs here, and he wouldn't have ended up in the shelter in the first place if I hadn't let someone have him. "Head honcho" was very polite and told me he would work with us.

I received a phone call from the shelter, and found out what they required, AND more about how the dog ended up at the "pound." The dog was actually in pretty bad shape when he was picked up, and taken imediately to a vet. He had worms to the point where he was weak and ill. As for me, here's what they wanted: A person from the shelter would have to come out and inspect my property, and my animals. Then of course the dogs would all have to get along. Also, I would need to provide proof af up to date shots for all of my animals, and they would need to inspect the dog houses and shelter situation. You would think I was takikg out a mortgae on my house! What next? Financial statements?

One more thing about the dog's health. He had some kind of bad rash, which I was told is caused by stress. You would think that the "geniuses" at the animal shelter would figure out that when you put a dog in a strange place, in a CAGE, surrounded by 200 other strange, barking, and screaming dogs, they should figure out the "stress" problem.
