Five Highly Affectionate and Lovable Dog Breeds

Are you looking for a loving dog breed who loves to snuggle? Here are five of the most affectionate dog breeds.

Although all dog breeds have the potential to be loyal, loving companions, certain dog breeds stand out as being particular affectionate with their owners. If you're looking for a dog who loves nothing better than to snuggle next to you on the couch, you may want to consider one of these affectionate dog breeds:

The Golden Retriever

If you're looking for a larger dog that's affectionate and loving, you can't go wrong with a Golden Retriever. Supremely loyal, these golden haired dogs not only adore the adults in their family but have infinite patience with children. Plus, they're large enough to snuggle with on the couch with you on those cold winter evenings. They're also active enough to be your companion on a variety of excursions from a good outdoor run to trail hiking. As if that isn't enough, they're quite intelligent and easy to train. No wonder they're one of America's most popular dogs.

The Labrador Retriever

This is another affectionate, large dog breed who wouldn't hesitate to curl up on your lap if they weren't so large! Labradors make excellent family dogs since they're generally quite patient and tolerant of the antics of children and tend to be easy to train and obedient. Labs almost always make the top ten lists of most intelligent dog breeds. With proper training, the Labrador retriever is an ideal family dog.

The Doberman

Most people have images of the Doberman pinscher as being an aggressive dog but if well trained, they are intensely loyal and affectionate towards their family although they have the potential to be aggressive towards strangers. Dobermans love to cuddle and tend to experience signs of separation anxiety when they're away from you. If properly trained, the Doberman will be your loyal protector for life.

The Brittany Spaniel

This hunting breed which originates from France is known for more than their prowess in the field. They also make delightful household companions who will shower you with affection. They tend to be quite energetic which means lots of daily exercise should be on the agenda. Their good natured disposition and tolerance of children make them an ideal pet for a young family.

Bichon Frise

If you're looking for an affectionate lap dog, you've found it with the loving and affectionate Bichon Frise. These white, fluffy dogs are just the right size to fit comfortably into your lap and are eager to accompany you wherever you might go. These dogs tend to be affectionate even with complete strangers which make them a hit when you take them out into public.

Other dog breeds known for their affectionate nature include the English Springer Spaniel, The Yorkshire Terrier, the Papillion, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Old English Sheepdog. German Shepherds also tend to be extremely loyal and affectionate towards their owners although somewhat unpredictable with strangers. Don't forget about the mixed breed dog adopted from a shelter. Realizing they've been given a second change, they can be the most affectionate of all.
