Fish Keeping

Make the stress of daily life disappear with a tropical fish tank.

Everyone at some time in their life has had a gold fish, remember coming home from the fairground with a goldfish? It becomes your pet for a few days then one morning you find it floating upside down in the bowl, as you reach across the kitchen table for your cornflakes. Quite off putting and all too soon your fish keeping days are over, as your mum pours the pitiful thing down the loo.

But once grown up, your fish tanks do. Mine is a five foot small tank , yes that's right small. Once you become a fish keeper bigger is most definetly better. I started off as most do with a two foot tank and gradually got bigger. My tank holds an array of South American Cyclid. They are amazingly easy to keep.

If you have a stressful day and who doesn't now days, there's nothing quite as relaxing as gazing at an under water world of colourful fish. Cichlids can grow up to 10 inches long and each have character of their own. I've set my tank out with a few different size caves as they love nothing better than making a cave their own. I collected my rocks for the caves from various beaches I've been to on my holidays, but you can also buy them quite reasonable priced from aquatic shops. When mating time arrives it's so interesting to watch the males. They move the graval around using their mouth spitting it out at a fast speed. They are very protective towards the female species, and guard the spot that they have carefully made suitable in the hope of the female laying her eggs.

Not expensive to run and quite easy to maintain. A bag of fish food lasts months a little slice of cucumber occasionally, and as a special treata bag of live river shrimp.

I'd recommend a fish tank in every home. My fish swim up to the glass every morning to greet me as soon as I come into the room. The benefits of keeping fis are tremendous, I don't have to pay out for an Indian head massage or hit the bottle to wind down after a stressful day. Laying on the sofa watching the gentle ways of the under water world does it for me every time.

Why not give it a go yourself? You'll need a fish tank stand pump heater and of coursse your choice of fish. ALL the equipment are reasonably priced, or why not look for a used tank and accessories maybe look on eBay.

And once you become the owner of your own tropical fish tank like me and thousands of others you'll be hooked [excuse the pun] for life. One things for sure you'll get drawn into this fascinating hobby, and you'll begin to think that one tank just isn't enough. I'm thinking of putting one in my bedroom, a sure way of helping you to drift off to a restful sleep is to lay watching the wonderful world of fish. Watching my fish beats watching the tv most nights.

So how about it? GONNA GET A TANK?
