While dogs as accessories are a huge no-no, dogs with accessories get two thumbs up. Remember Elle, Reese Witherspoon's character in Legally Blonde? She dressed up her chihuahua Bruiser in all sorts of frilly outfits to match her own. We may not need to go through that much trouble to find a way to express our dogs' personalities… or our own.
Think about it. A pit bull with a black spiked collar on may be an incredibly well-mannered dog, but we may bypass petting him in favor of the one donning a pink rhinestone collar. Collars come in a variety of fabrics and styles - from your basic 2.99 Wal-mart special to a diamond-studded leather number that costs more than an average mortgage payment. Why stop there? A dog wardrobe isn't entirely impractical.
Little dogs may need coats in colder climates, or hairless breeds like the chinese crested may need an extra layer just to weather the air conditioning in summer. Even big dogs with light-colored pads may need booties since their feet tend to be more sensitive than their dark-pawed buddies. There is a solution for every need and budget.
Ami Moore, a Chicago Dog Coach, believes it is okay to spoil your 4-legged pals. “The comfort of your dog is paramount. Just make sure the collar isn't too tight and the clothes aren't too restrictive. Be careful that the fabric doesn't retain heat in summer - opt for a breezy cotton to keep your dog cool.”
And who doesn't want a cool dog?
