Have you, a human, ever had one of those fanatical obsessions? Well, dogs have them too, apparently. I even have living proof: my Shi Tzu, Gizmo. He's little, white, fluffy, and has an intense urge to kill whatever happens to crawl into the drain pipe. That's fine and all, I know. But, there's one teensy, weensy, tiny little, okay a BIG problem. Can you guess what it is? A hint: instead of annually, we have to buy these weekly.
But... I'm getting ahead of myself.
All of the drain pipe stuff started when we moved into this house, about a year ago. There were chipmunks EVERYWHERE, and I mean EVERYWHERE. Gizmo just went crazy, depleting the chipmunk population left and right. Then, the chipmunks found out what a great hiding place the drain pipes are from Gizmo.
As I was saying, when the chipmunks discovered the drain pipes, they took to them immediately. So, Gizmo followed them, or tried to. You know, Gizmo has less brains than a T-Rex, because at least a T-Rex knew how to get it's food. Whenever gizmo tried to get at a chipmunk in a drain pipe, in the process of doing so, he clamped the opening to the drain shut. But it's really not his fault. He has a little pug nose and mouth, which, as you can tell, is not meant for long-distance biting. One time, though, he actually killed something, however, he probably didn't mean to.
Okay, get ready. You are about to be amazed. Ready? Gizmo chased a good 15 or 16 inch rat into the drain pipe. In the process of trying to get at the rat, Gizmo clamped the opening shut. But, the other end of the pipe that Gizmo didn't clamp was blocked with debris. Thus, Gizmo killed, in a way, a rat almost bigger than himself.
That may not seem like much, but if you knew Gizmo, him being the type of dog who would just walk up to a burglar, expecting a pat, you would b flabbergasted at the thought of Gizmo actually killing something. So anyway, isn't that a weird obsession. It's like dogs are people, too. But you already knew that.
