Behind the enigmatic eyes of the domestic cat there lies a world of mystery and intrigue. Whilst a dog’s face tells us its thoughts immediately, only a foolish person would claim to know what a cat is thinking. Cats are not sentimental. They are not fooled by the imperialistic master-slave relationship as dogs are. They behave like kings and queens. They are glad of our company, if it is only to feed, groom and lavish our attention on them. And cats give so much in return. Oh, not silly things like their paw when commanded. That would be beneath them to do. No, cats allow us to settle into quiet contemplation. They are greatly philosophical creatures. They also hold a calming presence in your house. When a stranger comes to visit, a dog will bark and run around in a display of childish emotion. A cat, on the other hand, will lift its head from its pensive snooze and, depending on the situation, will either continue to sleep or move to a quieter place.
