Not too many people know much about the Alaskan Husky, but those who do know will tell you the same thing; You can't ask for a better family dog.
The Alaskan Husky is a fairly new breed. In fact, it is not even listed as an official breed. None the less, this breed of Husky is becoming more and more popular. There are Husky breeders now across the nation and the main reason is that it is a better family dog than its cousins: the Siberian Husky and the Malamute.
Alaskan Huskies are big, smart animals that were originally used as working dogs. Their primary use in the working field was sledding, and do to their larger frame and milder tempers, they became a favorite. These dogs enjoy the work because they love people. As long as the owner or trainer gives affection, the Alaskan Husky will continue to impress.
All of this is great information about the Husky. But unless you plan on having your children sledded to school, this probably doesn't apply to you. Still, if you are going to get a Husky, it is important to know about the animals character.
The Alaskan Husky is great around children. They are never aggressive toward children, no matter the age, and are the ideal pet for outdoor play. Huskies love to stretch their legs and run, they love to explore and they love attention and affection. So if the kids are outside running around and playing, the Husky will join them.
As far as training goes, they are very intelligent but at the same time they are stubborn. Huskies have a mind of their own so it may take some patience to get your Husky to follow the rules. The best route is to make it a game for them, for they do not respond well to anger. Though they will never attack their owner, they will not listen if you spank and yell at them. They are sensitive animals, so giving them affection when they do good is a great tool for success.
Another way the Husky is helpful is it has a tremendous presence as a guard dog. Although it would be very unlikely that a Husky would attack a stranger, they are still a big dog and that alone commands respect.

The Husky will stand its ground if it is feeling threatened by another animal, but it is not common for them to instigate. If there is a cat that lives in your home, you should probably worry more about how the cat will react then the dog. Huskies like to play with cats, though it is possible for them to get carried away.
