Organizing the Desktop

How to get you desktop organized.

Is your desktop a mess… files and folders all over the screen, so much that you can barely see the picture?

Boy do I have a tip for you! Make folders for all your stuff. Like put all your "office" things in one folder, then add sub-folders, for business and personal doc's or files, within the office folder. Make a game folder, then sub-folders for the different types of games, in the one game folder. Then put your games in the folder according to game type. All the match type games together, all the hidden object types together, etc.

If your use different word processing programs for different tasks, put them in one folder, and label it "Paper". In addition, in the office folder, you might want to open the word processing programs, and save a blank document as save as… "paper". That way you already have a blank piece of paper to use when you need it.

Just remember to change the label when you are finished with the document, you should then have two files… the paper doc and the name of the doc you just typed up. If you do this, you should always have the blank "paper" document.

Did you know, you could also put color to those folders? There are a few little programs that will allow you to colorize those yellow folders. My favorite is called "Rainbow Folders". It makes for easier finding if the folders stand out in color! Just do a Google Search for "rainbow folders" , or "color folders". This is a free to use program.

When you have the rainbow program installed, a box will pop up when you click on the little folder with a penguin on it. Leave what is blank…blank. Move the color bar to the color you want, then under that is the depth of color…move that all the way over for deep bold color, then click "confirm". This will show you the folder in the color you choose. Now, go over to the left, and highlight the folder you wish to color, then on the right side of the color box, click "colorize". Then exit out of the program. Your folder should be colored.

If you want the colored folder on your desktop, first find it in you document list, then push it clear out of the box onto the desktop. (no shortcut arrow.) The folder might be back to yellow, that is all right… just re-boot the computer , and then the color should show up afterwards. Then you can arrange the folders how you want them.
