Tips to help you have a profitable and fun yard sale.
Gather the items you want to sale and make sure they are reasonably clean, and in working order.
Organize your items by category: games, clothes, dishes, gadgets, furniture, and so on. This makes it easier for shoppers to browse and find what they want.
Apply masking tape or stickers as price labels.
Price items reasonably. People will look for bargains.
Be sure you have plenty of small bills, and change before you start your yard sale.
Post signs listing the location, days, and hours you will be open throughout the outlying communities.
For more shoppers, place an advertisement in your local paper.
Make sure you have parking places available that are easily accessible.
Be willing to negotiate to sell more of your stuff.
Try to hold your sale on the weekend for more shoppers; word of mouth advertising will bring more visitors.
Your sale will do better if you can have your items out in the open so people can see them passing by. If your neighbors will join in, you can pool your items or have individual sales on the same day.
Thanks Ruby, These tips should help a lot of folks.

Thanks for the advise. After Christmas I intend to clear out my house and have a yard sale. This will make it easier.

Thank you all for your interest. Maybe we should get together and have one big yard sale. I haven't had one lately.

Yard sales are a good way to get rid of things you don't need any more, but be sure you have plenty of change.

Get your neighbors involved by organizing a whole BLOCK SALE. We get hoards of people every year. We chip in for an ad or two in the papers. It becomes a really fun event for the kids on the block. Their lemonade stands and baked goods sales seem to do well during the block sale!
