Should I quit my job?
You need to ask yourself some hard questions first. Even more important than asking the questions is answering them honestly.
- Why do you want to quit? Are you at odds with your boss or co-workers? Just don’t want to work? Is it a dead end job? Need a higher paying job? Don’t like the type of work you are in?
- Is there another job available for you? Do you have another job lined up? Where do you want to work and can you get a job there?
- How much money do you need to live on and where is it coming from? Do you have enough money in reserve to support you and your family while you look for another job?
- Does you spouse/partner support your desire to change jobs? Your home life might become pretty stressed if you don’t have the support of your significant other.
- What if you don't get a cheque for a month or two? It could be a month or so between pay cheques even if you start another job right away, how are you going to pay the bills?
- Does your current job have benefits? Will the new one? Take a look at the benefit package that comes with the job it can make a big difference to the bottom line if you’re suddenly without dental or medical coverage.
If after answering these questions you still see benefits to starting a new job then I say 'go for it'.
