Oil Price Per Barrel
It is very important to check websites that give you a look at the gas price especially in the evenings so that you can predict the following day gas price. If the gas price fell in the commodities market (especially if other markets were more attractive i.e. if the currency market is not very favorable than investors turn to commodities and other alternatives in the trading market) than the chances of the next days gas prices being low are much higher. A website such as Bloomberg.com will generally give you an overview of all markets.
Local Sites with Lowest Gas Prices
There are a number of sites depending on your local area that will provide you with lowest gas prices and highest gas prices from different vendors. An example of this in the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario, Canada is TorontoGasPrices.com. This site will generally give you by time and location of various gas stations, their prices of all levels of octane (generally regular, midrange and premium). Sometimes looking out for such sites will help you find the best possible deals.
Try Premium Gas (or Midrange)
Premium gas can sometimes help clean your car's fuel system and give you a lot more power due to higher octane levels. I have personally experienced a lot more power on my 2008 Nissan Versa when I tried premium gas and after careful monitoring I found that generally the premium gas will burn slowly and give a lot more mileage. Some may argue that the higher price is offset by the increase in KMS or Miles however, I found that even after offsetting it gave me at least an extra 50 KMS (of course this will depend on driving habit as well as highway or city driving)
Drive Sensibly
People always complain about higher gas prices but don't change their driving habit. If you could drive more carefully within the speed limit the chances of you saving fuel is a lot higher than when you press on the accelerator too hard or drive for very short distances. If the red light turns green do not race to get to speed limit rather start slowly and gradually accelerate the vehicle to reach the speed limit. Do not idle for over a minute because idling for a minute and turning your car on will have the same affect on the consumption of gas. Following simple rules as mentioned above will help reduce the consumption of gas and is good for all; the environment, your pocket as well as your car.
I hope these tips help you improve your gas mileage and don't let you feel the high costs of gas prices. If you still think gas is expensive think about how much it costs you to buy a gallon of clean water.
