Here are few simple things you can do to save on energy costs (don't forget little things can make a big difference):
- Use energy saver light bulbs in your house wherever you can and you will see a drastic difference in your electric bill. You will be surprised the cost will be cut to half.
- When you do your laundry...wash you clothes in cold water instead of hot which will save on overall electric costs.
- Make sure your house is well insulated from all over so in winter Heat cannot escape and in summer AC air does not lick out and also use Heavy or thick draperies and curtains all around the house.
- Make sure to shut off the light when you go out of the room or if you are not using the room.
- When you enter into different season make sure to change your dampers accordingly and shut the dampers in the rooms that are not being used on regular basis.
- Reduce the temperature of the hot water tank or heater.
- Reduce the thermostat temperature lower when out on vacation or when no one in the house.
- Invest in more energy efficient product. For example, buy appliance that run on gas, buying a front face washer which cuts your water level to 1/4 compare to the top opening washer.
- Make sure unnecessary things are not kept plugged in the electric outlet. For example, if you are not using some electric device daily than keep it unplugged.
- Keep the water from running if you are not using. For example, turn on the water after you are done brushing your teeth instead of running it through out.
