Save Money on Almost Everything

Things you can do to keep more of your money in your own pocket.

There are ways to save money on almost everything. Here are a few examples that can work for you.

  1. Switch to a prepaid cell phone if you use less than 200 minutes a month-Mobile and Verizon offer plans that let you buy a minimum number of minutes, sometimes as little a $10.00 worth and lets you use them as you need them. You're not required to buy more for a year.
  2. You can save tens of thousands of dollars in interest by shopping for the shortest term mortgage you can afford. For example; each $100,000 you borrow at 7% annual percentage rate (APR) you will pay $75,000 less in interest on a 15 year fixed rate mortgage than you would on a 30 year fixed rate mortgage.
  3. Cut back your TV premium package ($100.00 to the basic package ($45.00.You will likely have all the channels you can watch and still have time to read a book or take your kids to the park.
  4. Every add-on on your telephone service is $5.00 each. Callers ID, call waiting, three way calling, and voice mail. Dropping just one will save you $60.00 a year.
  5. Before you replace your cell phone, visit the web. Online services offer the same phones and service plans for all major carriers-but for much less. Go to Lets Talk, and save more than 70%. for example; The AT&T tilt phone is $299.00 at the AT&T store; At LetsTalk.com, its $99.99.
  6. Combine your satellite or cable TV, phone, internet service, and long distance in one bundle and it will cost you much less than paying for each service separately.
  7. Buy a prepaid long distance card at Costco for about $20.00 for 700 minutes and cancel your long distance service. That's about 11 hours of chat at 2.9 cents per minute.
  8. Every month when you pay your mortgage payment, write a second check for 1/12 of the regular payment. At the end of the year you will have paid 13 house payments. On a 30 year $200.000 mortgage at 6.75 percent interest, you will pay off your mortgage in 24 years and save $62.750 in interest.
  9. Pay your credit card payments when you receive the bill. You will reduce the daily balance for more days in the cycle, and pay 5 to 10 dollars less.
  10. Pay your bills online. If you pay 15 bills per month by mail, you're spending at least $75.00 a year on postage.

There are many more ways to save your money but these suggestions will go a long way toward keeping more money in your pocket. You can; ask your doctor for generic drugs. Visit Gas Buddy to find the cheapest gas in your neighborhood, Offer your doctor cash for a discount. Ask why you need a follow up visit. Often a call will do.

Thanks to you all for sharing your time. I appreciate it more than you know.

Alexa and Anna, yes the best part is the money you have at the end of the month. That is the thing all of us are interested in. Though for me and others it is stretched to the limit just to make it to the end of the month.
