Across America, many hard working families are pushed for money to cover everyday expenses as we watch the economy drop. The cost of food to the cost of gas is growing higher, yet our paychecks are not growing as fast. The outcome is many families living from paycheck to paycheck struggling to make ends meat. Recycling is giving people a incentive to help the environment due to the increasing payout for recycled items and many are seeking the extra cash to help them out.
Recycling facilities business is picking up and find the weekends are the busiest. Most families free time is found on the weekends and find themselves spending it by bringing in anything and everything they can for the extra buck. These people are scrap sellers, who are in construction or plumbing, collect scraps from their job sights to bring in. Regular people are going through their garages, basements, and even through the neighborhood trash after dark looking for anything that can be recycled.
The current increase in recycling, outside the need for extra, comes from the skyrocketing metal prices caused by the increasing demand by developing countries. Recycling facilities are receiving and therefore, paying more for copper, aluminum, and steel. It wasn’t very long ago when you were only receiving around 30 cents a pound for aluminum cans, but know you can receive around 70 to 80 cents instead. At that time, a seller would receive less then a dollar per pound for copper. Copper now pays around $3 a pound. Jumping up for $40 a gross ton, sellers with steel now receive more then $200 per gross ton.
With increasing busy schedules and stretching a dollar as far as it can go, recycling is now giving America the chance to use their multitasking skills by putting more green in their pocket and decreasing their households environmental impact at the same time. I think now would be a good time to make cleaning out the garage a weekend priority.
