Ignore brand names
Brand names go to a lot of trouble to persuade you that they are the best. Often, stores own brands or unbranded goods are just as good quality, and cost far less.
Always cook double
Cook twice as much as your family will eat, and freeze the rest for another day. You save time, you save ingredients, you save waste and you save fuel.
Shop with a list
Going to the shops? Take your list. It stops you buying on a whim and it stops you forgetting something that you’ll need to make another journey for.
Use a general purpose cleaner
Ignore those adverts, you do not need 10 products to clean your home. Find a good general purpose cleanser and then add white vinegar and washing soda to the list. These three things will do everything from floors to bathrooms to windows, even laundry at need.
Beg, Borrow and Share
Use barter, Freecycle, thrift shop sand good old word of mouth to get the things you need. If you need a tool less than once a month you don’t want to buy it, borrow it instead.
