Money Saving Tips

John Ruskin, best known for his work as an art critic, sage writer, and social critic and is also remembered as an author, poet and artist once said: "It is unwise to pay too much, but it is worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money – that is all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do." The following will surely help you save money.

Express Banking

Enroll with your bank's express banking and online banking. You can make payment and transactions or check your balance by phone or through the internet. It is not only convenient but it spares you to go to the nearest branch to line up.

Refrain from Eating in a Restaurant When at Work

To resist the urge to eat out often, stock up crackers, instant noodles, soups, etc. Make sure that you also have instant coffee in your office drawer. A sachet of instant coffee mixed with sugar and milk costs a lot cheaper by simply adding hot water compare to the price of Starbucks.

Withdraw Money from your Own Bank's ATM

Try to avoid paying unnecessary fees. Allow yourself a maximum of one withdrawal a month from the ATM's of other banks. This way, you will keep your charges for using guest banks.

Avoid Penalties

Try to return rented videos on time so you do not have to pay the daily fine.

Dine Out Once in a While

Limit your family dinner out once in a month. A dinner at a fancy restaurant with the whole family would often cost you a lot. You may still eat out but start to make it as a treat and not a thing your family normally do.

Remove those Bulbs

Replace all your incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs, especially for your outside lights. Fluorescent may be more expensive but they are brighter, consume less electricity, and would last six to 10 times longer.

Start a Savings Account

Open a savings account and put in a little percentage of your monthly salary. Every payday make it a habit to deposit a little amount of money for rainy days and emergencies. It will make you feel good to prioritize saving before spending.

Avail of Discounts

Whenever you do the grocery, go to the warehouse clubs or discount stores with your neighbors or friends and split the taxi fare or gas bill. Inside the store, choose whenever possible generic labels and house brands. If you can afford, it is also wise to buy in bulk that would last until the next payday. It will save you a lot.

Laundry Techniques

Learn to conserve water and detergents when doing your laundry. Reuse the water for laundering colored clothes after laundering the whites. Next, fill the basin or the washing machine with fresh water then wash the whites the second time and so is the colored ones. Before throwing out the water, use this for cleaning and disinfecting the rags.

Drink Water

Nothing beats drinking water to keep you and your wallet healthy. Water is nonfattening, delicious, and it does not cause tooth decay. Above all it is a lot cheaper than sodas and other drinks.

Use Mass Public Transport

Give up the cabs unless extremely necessary. Take advantage of the bus, trains, ferries, and other mass public transport. It is cheaper and economical.

Send Ecards Instead

Take note of all the email addresses and birthdays of your friends and loved ones and send them free virtual cards by email. You can do this in almost all occasions; these electronic greeting cards are prompt, funny and show how much you care without costing you anything at all except for the effort.

Stop Impulse Buying

Do not allow yourself to be tempted by promo offers if you know that the items would be useless. Though some package seems to be very attractive initially but if you knew you really would not need it, decline the offer.
