Energy Star Products
Energy Star is a company that certifies certain appliances for being energy efficient. These appliances include things like refrigerators, ovens, stoves, microwaves, and much more. It would be impractical to replace all your appliances now if they are in good condition. Just make sure that when your going out to replace a broken appliance, you buy an Energy Star approved appliance.
Hybrid Cars
This is another one like the Energy Star products in the fact that you shouldn't get rid of your perfectly good car to buy a hybrid one. This is something you should do when your car breaks down. Hybrid cars truly do save your money while helping out the environment. Gas prices today are extremely high and by buying a hybrid car you can cut the amount of times you fill up your car with gas in half. Something that is very interesting is that car companies that have hybrid cars are doing better than companies that don't sell hybrid cars. By buying a hybrid car you are supporting that certain company. If enough people keep buying hybrids from one company, than other companies are going to have to start researching hybrids more. The efficiency of hybrid cars will grow as car companies compete.
Alternative Way of Transportation
This is a simple one. If you choose to walk or ride a bike than you are choosing to help out the environment. You can also get some exercise as well. If walking or riding a bike isn't a good choice for you than you can take a bus. Consider this for a second. Suppose there are thirty people on the bus. Imagine if each of those people decided to take a car to get to wherever they needed to go. That would be thirty people in thirty cars all burning gasoline at once. By being on the bus you are saving the environment and saving money. Instead of paying for the high gas prices to fill up you car you are only paying around two dollars to take the bus.
Conserving Energy
This one is so easy. It is as simple as turning the lights off if you don't need them and especially when you leave the room. Also make sure that your air conditioning and heater isn't incredibly high. It is OK if the room is a little bit cool or a little bit hot.
Solar Panels
Solar panels are quiet expensive, but if you can afford them they are nice to have. The thing about solar panels is that during the day they are always working. Some people even make more energy than they use and end up selling some energy. If you can make your house 100% efficient by having solar panels, than you will never have to pay for an electricity bill again.
