Do you sometimes write a check thinking you have money to cover it in your checking account, only to find you did not, and are charged a large fee for the over sight? If you follow these instructions that will never happen to you again:
- Always record every check you write, and subtract it from your balance.
- Write down every electronic withdrawal and subtract from balance.
- Record every deposit and add to your balance.
- When you get your statement, compare the statement with your record. Check off each check in your record as you compare with statement.
- Subtract any checks you have written that are not in your bank statement from total balance of statement.
- Note any miscellaneous fees and subtract those.
- Add any deposits you have made that are not on your bank statement.
Credit Card Record
To keep better control of your money, you can go even further. Write each charge on your credit card, and subtract it from your bank balance. Don't charge more than you can pay at the end of the month, and avoid all interest charges.
