Five Ways to Save on Water and Energy

Five ways you can save water and energy. They may not be new, but are you doing any of them?

  1. When doing the washing up: Instead of running water into the kitchen sink use a smaller container that fits into the sink. Not only will you save water and the power used to heat the water, you will also save energy because the water will retain heat longer.
  2. When running the hot water tap in the kitchen or bathroom, catch the not yet hot “hot water” in containers rather than let it pour out the drain pipe
  3. Insert a diverter in the drain pipe under the laundry tubs. This will enable the used laundry water to be used again in the garden via a flexible agriculture hose.
  4. Instead of washing the car with water, either at home or at a car wash, try a waterless car wash, such as FW1
  5. Why not save the unused hot water that has been left over after making a cup of tea or coffee and put it in a thermos flask
