All the worries and debates concerning the ridiculous gas prices won't be pacified by economist or politicians anytime soon. One of the honest things President Bush has told the public is that we have to take matters in our own hands.
The big boys at the top of the hill are raising the gas prices so high that even if Senator Obama goes to office he would not be promising less than $3.60 a gallon. The pump price is already up 39% from this time last year, and crude oil ended at $145 per barrel at the week's close.
So, we are on our own on this one. With the new contribution of 62,000 job loss an astute organic approach is the only way to get by. Here are just five immediate things folks can do to cut the gas burden:
- Don't drive anywhere less than a mile. If you're not late, walk.
- Use public transportation. Of course this is helpful for those living in cities that have Pub Trans. However, car-pooling works everywhere. Car-pool to the grocery store or to events not just work.
- Drive slower. A heavy foot on the pedal will hit your wallet.
- Get an oil change and tune up. Healthy cars are fuel efficient.
- Get a bike and ride it.
