Lately there's all this talk about going green and saving the environment. And my question is what what's it going to take for me to be green, what can I do to help. I found out that I already was in some way and here are some simple yet money saving ways you too can be green.
Bags
Every one is doing this reusable bag thing. I do too, I shop at these stores that you have to bag your own groceries. My son one day asked the cashier why they don't bag our groceries like the other stores. The cashier told him that's how we are able to keep the prices down on the food. All the other stores mark up the prices to cover the cost of the bags we use. I was also told that some stores will stop providing bags. So start bringing your own and you could even make your own as well.
Organic
Use organic foods. Especially local grown food. I know that organic food seems a little more costly than the other stuff but its better to eat healthy than to have bad health. And organic foods taste better. The better your health the less the doctor bill will cost.
Water
Got to have it, need to drink it but most people wont touch. Get a filter. I use one and I refill my water bottles. It taste better than tape water. But if you don't have money to buy a filter your could boil your water. My grandmother always boiled her water, and it will save lots of money.
Jars, Cans and Plastic Containers
In some places you can buy foods in bulk like peanut butter, coffee, dried fruit ect. Reuse your peanut butter jar to refill it at a health food store. My cousin use to buy these big coffee cans and would try to throw them out. I use them for my sugar and flour. You can find other things to use cans for. Also use your plastic soda bottles to grow herbs in.
This is just a few way you can start saving money and be green. I also home school my son and I'm teaching him about composting. It's a great science project and it will teach him how things work together and how things grow. Its also good for the environment.
