Make sure that you tires are inflated to the right pressure
Tires that are overinflated and or under inflated cause your vehicle to be unbalanced. Which is a reason why there is a set pressure they should be at in your owners manual. When they are not at the desired pressure, your vehicle begins to lose gas mileage. It has been estimated that you can gain/raise your gas mileage by about 15-25 percent if you follow this simple step of regularly checking and maintain the right pressure in your tires. Plus this simple step is usually free because most gas stations have free air pumps, and this is a very easy way to gain some extra gas milage.
Check and change your air filter periodically
The way your car runs is by the combustion of gas and air so, a dirty or clogged air filter is really harming the gas mileage off your car. Most air filters can be taken out and replaced in any car in a matter of a few minutes, and the process is actually very easy to do. (So don't think your going to have to dish out a lot of money because you will need to see a mechanic.) A new air filter will cost you between $10-20, at your neighbor hood part store, but can easily earn you 10-20 percent of gas mileage.
When traveling on the highway stay close to the posted speed limit
The highest speed limit where you stay on your best gas mileage is 60. This is why the speed limit is posted at this high on the highway. It is for your own good. The speed limit is trying to tell you this is your best way to save on fuel. So next time your traveling on the highway take your time and travel this way to save on gas money. Also every 5 mph you travel above 60, it is estimated that you lose anywhere between 5-10 percent on your fuel.
