Turn off appliances that are not in use When you're done watching the TV or your DVD player, turn them off. The same thing goes for computers, air conditioning unit, video game consoles and your sound system.
Dryers use a lot of energy to operate. If you can and if you have the space, hang your clothes under the sun to dry. Not only will you get to save on electricity, there's also nothing better than the smell of sun-dried clothes.
Are you still using incandescent bulbs? You know they are being phased out because they use too much electricity. Use fluorescent lights instead.
Turn off the lights when you're going to sleep. Or if you can't sleep without the lights on, use a night light instead. You can also use candles, just make sure they are placed far from flammable objects.
Change your air filters periodically so the air conditioning unit will not have to work doubly hard.
Make sure your faucets are not dripping. Have it fixed immediately when it gets broken so you don't waste water.
Don't take baths too often. Use the shower as it uses less water.
When baking, oven heat can be lowered 25 degrees if you use glass or ceramic baking dishes as these retain heat better and longer.
Vinegar is a great disinfectant for every man-made surfaces. Use it instead of commercial products.
Eat at home. Do serve home-cooked meals. Not only do they taste better and healthier, you can save money from too much eating out.
Use any leftovers to make another meal for the next day.
If you have a garden, grow your own food. There's nothing fresher than a homegrown vegetable.
Try to plan everything in just one trip: paying the bills, going to the mall, visiting somebody. You can also commute once in a while or carpool with a family or friend. You get to save gas this way.
If you're going somewhere that's just within walking distance, walk instead of driving. You save gas and get a good exercise at the same time.
Exchange DVDs with your friends instead of buying new ones. You can also save from going to the cinemas.
