15 Meals for a Family of Four at $5 or Under

This is a list of meals that can be created on a shoestring budget.

Sometimes all we need is a reminder or an idea in order to save money by cooking our own. Here are some of my favorite money saving meals.

  1. Whole chicken rotisseried or baked with mashed potatoes and green beans $4.50
  2. Nacho chips with bean dip and salsa $3.50
  3. Omelets with vegetables $3.00
  4. Homemade macaroni and cheese with peas and mandarin oranges $3.00
  5. Spaghetti pie with spinach in it (See Betty Crocker cookbook) $5.00
  6. Homemade chili soup with macaroni and a side salad $5.00
  7. Venison stew in the crock pot (not including the cost of the venison) $4.00
  8. Frozen pizza 2 @ $2.50 each $5.00
  9. Grilled cheese sandwiches with grilled zucchini $4.00
  10. 4 cheeseburgers loaded with tomatoes, onions, pickles, and peppers $4.50
  11. Spanish rice with beef and apple slices $4.00
  12. Hot dogs or bologna sandwiches with a side garden salad $4.00
  13. Spaghetti and meatballs with grilled green peppers and garlic bread $5.00
  14. Homemade fried rice made with whatever you have on hand (Eggs, green tomatoes, leftover beef, pork, carrots, green peppers, etc.) $3.50
  15. Tacos or burritos with pinto beans cheddar cheese, lettuce and tomatoes $5.00

If you're like me and trying to make it in this economy, then grocery budgeting can become a welcomed challenge. It's just a matter of changing old habits and getting a new mindset.
