Sometimes all we need is a reminder or an idea in order to save money by cooking our own. Here are some of my favorite money saving meals.
- Whole chicken rotisseried or baked with mashed potatoes and green beans $4.50
- Nacho chips with bean dip and salsa $3.50
- Omelets with vegetables $3.00
- Homemade macaroni and cheese with peas and mandarin oranges $3.00
- Spaghetti pie with spinach in it (See Betty Crocker cookbook) $5.00
- Homemade chili soup with macaroni and a side salad $5.00
- Venison stew in the crock pot (not including the cost of the venison) $4.00
- Frozen pizza 2 @ $2.50 each $5.00
- Grilled cheese sandwiches with grilled zucchini $4.00
- 4 cheeseburgers loaded with tomatoes, onions, pickles, and peppers $4.50
- Spanish rice with beef and apple slices $4.00
- Hot dogs or bologna sandwiches with a side garden salad $4.00
- Spaghetti and meatballs with grilled green peppers and garlic bread $5.00
- Homemade fried rice made with whatever you have on hand (Eggs, green tomatoes, leftover beef, pork, carrots, green peppers, etc.) $3.50
- Tacos or burritos with pinto beans cheddar cheese, lettuce and tomatoes $5.00
If you're like me and trying to make it in this economy, then grocery budgeting can become a welcomed challenge. It's just a matter of changing old habits and getting a new mindset.
