10 Painless Ways to Save More Money

Ten easy ways that you can cut costs and save money.

Whatever you think about the state of our economy, the reality is that for many people tough times are here. And everything, not just the price of fuel is going up. So now more than ever consumers need to make smart choices when it comes to their finances. But there are a few wise budget cuts that you can make now that will make things a lot easier in the long run for you and your family.

  1. Run all of your errands at the same time, this will save considerably on fuel and time.
  2. Never go shopping without a list and never purchase something on a whim that's not on the list.
  3. Do more cooking at home and save eating out for a special occasion.
  4. Cut out the Starbucks and learn to make your own flavored coffee. Just do the math, if you're having one $3.00 latte a day for five days a week that adds up to $60.00 a month.
  5. Start bringing your own lunch to work instead of eating out. Not only will your wallet be healthier, but so will you.
  6. Drink tap water instead of bottled, if you're in the habit of drinking bottled water the savings will be considerable.
  7. Make your toilet low-flow, in a two bathroom home this could save you approx. $180.00 a year. And all that you have to do is fill a plastic drink bottle with water, cap it and then place it in a corner of the tank where it will decrease the amount of water needed to flush the toilet.
  8. Turn off your electronics, 75% of the electricity used to power home electronics is consumed when the products are off. This is according to the US Department Of Energy.
  9. Don't hand wash the dishes, it actually costs about $36 less a year to run full loads in the dish washer.
  10. If possible line dry your clothes, the dryer is the second most energy hogging appliance in your home. The refrigerator is the first.
