Selling your home is a big event and life-changing occurrence. But imagine being the homebuyer…we've all been there. Pay it forward and easy random acts of kindness can help every homebuyer's transition easier. All it takes is about ten minutes of time.
We all know what it's like to move into a new house, and a new area, and feel lost.
The following are some tips every home seller can use to help ease the homebuyer's mind.
- Leave an extra copy of a recent Yellow Pages Telephone book- It may be a few days or a week before the mail delivery catches up with the new homeowner. The new homeowner will appreciate quick and easy access to all local stores.
- Leave neighbors' telephone number- Of course; get the neighbors' permission first. But every newcomer to the neighborhood may have questions and who better to ask then someone from the area and nearby. Plus friendships can evolve.
- Leave home improvement projects' receipts- Any home improvement projects, built-in appliances, furnace cleanings and additions to the home's structure should be left for new homeowner. Leave items and receipts in a large envelope for easy access.
- List of good restaurants in area- Whether it's carry out or dine in. Let the new homeowners know where's a good place to take the family or dine as a couple. Especially their first night in the house. No one wants to cook…so make it easy for them to call for a pizza to be delivered.
- List of reputable contractors (plumbers, electricians)- In case something goes it'll be nice to a reference list of who to call and who's good. Eases the panic state momentarily.
- Leave list of utility companies. Leave a list of local utility companies including electric, gas, water and telephone.
- Leave a small notebook and pen/pencil handy- So when the new homeowners need to take notes on a telephone call they won't be scrambling for these items.
- Leave a copy of the most recent local newspaper- New homeowners can check out classifieds, what's been happening around town and maybe get the low-down on some local attractions.
- Leave a few individual bottles of water chilling in the refrigerator- New homeowners may not have refrigerator filled yet or have had time to grocery shop. Plus moving is not only exhausting but refueling your thirst is good.
- Leave the t.p. and some soap- There's nothing worse then finally getting to your new home and you have to relief yourself…NOW. But where did you pack the toilet paper? Who knows? Leaving one roll of toilet paper in each bathroom will help ease the pressure of new homeowner searching for their stash- plus ease the pressure of a full bladder.
If I were to ever find these things in a new home I'm moving to, I'd put you on my Holiday mailing list for the rest of my life.
Really, wouldn't it be magnificient if all of us were this thoughtful to each other most all of the time?
You give me hope, Brynn. You give me hope. =)
