Dressing Your Home for the Holiday Real Estate Market

Important tips for selling your home during the holidays.

Everyone knows the real estate market is strongest during the summer months, right? But there is another time of year when you have a great chance at selling your home. When is that you might ask. Well, the holiday season of course. Now, that may sound a little strange, but in fact, many homes are sold during this time of year. So let's look at some of the ways we can spruce up you home with seasonal decorating.

First, let's take a look at Halloween. This is a love it or hate it holiday. So for the sake of argument, let's leave the Halloween decorating to a bare minimum. No ghosts, witches, zombies and so on. What you can use though, and quite effectively is fall leaves pumpkins, and gourds. Indian corn is perfect for the fall season also. Scatter these decorating elements around liberally for that really homey look and feel. And don't forget the enchanting smell of cinnamon and apples. All these decorating items combined will really make your home stand out in a crowd.

The next holiday of the season is Thanksgiving. This one is pretty simple and you can actually leave all the pumpkins, gourds, fall leaves, as well as, the Indian corn where they are. After all fall is fall no matter what holidays we're talking about. So let's just skip to Christmas shall we?

Christmas is another one of those holidays where it's easy to upset someone. Why don't we look at the mistakes that are sometimes made and how to avoid them?

First, religiously speaking, Christmas can be a nightmare. There are just too many different beliefs surrounding this all important day so my suggestion is keep it as simple as possible. Use greens and plants and other elements that are natural. Pine cones, holly, pine boughs, poinsettias all say happy holidays rather than Merry Christmas, and that is exactly what you want. Santa and Jesus are two very debatable subjects, so for at least this year try to avoid setting these items out. Or, if that is asking too much, just make it easy to hide them when a potential buyer is coming by to take a look. Hang a Seasonal wreath on the front door and adorn it with poinsettias and pine cones and maybe some fake snow. Add some seasonally colored ribbon and you have a beautiful and seasonal wreath to great your potential buyers.

These few tips are suggested so you can maximize all the potential the season has to offer. Just one word of caution, don't over do it. A few simple decorating displays go a long way, and don't forget the yard. This is your first chance to impress, so don't miss out on a great opportunity to let your home shine.

The more people your home appeals to the more potential you have of selling. So why not give them a try.
