Most of the light bulbs that are used right now are incandescent light bulbs. Changing to fluorescent light bulbs would be a change for the better. Changing to fluorescent light bulbs would increase the length of use of the bulb, lower the energy cost, and lower emissions released in the atmosphere.
More than 90 percent of the energy from incandescent light bulb is heat. This makes only about 10 percent of the energy is actually light, which makes the light bulb, burn out in only about 750 to 1000 hours of use. Fluorescent light bulbs last longer because the bulbs do not have the heat of incandescent bulbs. This makes fluorescent bulbs last almost ten times the life of an incandescent light bulb.
Fluorescent bulbs do cost more than incandescent bulbs, but it is an advantage to buy fluorescent bulbs. Fluorescent bulbs use about a quarter of the kilowatts per hour than incandescent bulbs use. When paying for electricity the rate that is paid is measured in kilowatts per hour. Using fluorescent bulbs saves money because less kWh is used.
Switching to fluorescent light bulbs would also lower the amount of emissions released into the atmosphere. Fluorescent bulbs emit a quarter of greenhouse gases into the air than incandescent light bulbs do.
Fluorescent light bulbs are a better choice than incandescent light bulbs because fluorescent bulbs last almost ten times longer, save a lot of money, and emit less greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than incandescent light bulbs do.
