Are you tired of paying out your hard-earned money on whiteners and stain removers that line the grocery store shelves? Want to find a better or a cheaper way?
You just did! And you may already have these items in your kitchen cabinets!
- Have rust or juice stains? Try lemon juice, either straight or diluted. Pre-treat the item with the lemon juice just like you would with a store bought treatment and then wash it.
- Have a problem with odors or hard water? Use a cup of white vinegar for a full load of wash to eliminate odors in your laundry and to soften the water. Add it to the rinse cycle.
- Another cure for odors and hard water is baking soda. It’s gentle enough for cloth diapers. Add half a cup to the wash cycle.
- Have protein based stains? Like blood, chocolate, fudge stains. Try meat tenderizer. Apply just enough to cover the stain and then let it stand for about an hour. Allow the tenderizer to dry and then brush it off and wash the item. If the stain has set, add a little bit of water to the tenderizer to make a paste and then apply it to the laundry item. Let stand for about an hour before washing.
- Don’t throw away that spoiled milk, use it as a bleach!
- Have grease stains on your clothes? Try applying salt to the stain. After it dry, brush it off and then wash the item. Salt will also work on rust stains. If it doesn’t work by itself, mix it with white vinegar to make a paste, apply it to the stain and rub it in before washing.
